Remaining Pure Until Marriage

The Bible teaches us in Ephesians 5:5 that fornicators will not enter heaven. Fornication is the sin of having sexual relations outside of marriage. We live in a world that has so many temptations left and right. Just

turn on the television and you can see sexual images on so many channels. Pornography is easily available on your television and computer. Books and magazines are filled with these images as well. So, one may ask how does a single Christian remain pure until marriage? I will say as a single Christian person myself, that it not easy, but not impossible either.

First of all, we need to guard our hearts and minds like the Bible says to. We need to avoid temptation as much as possible. We should be honoring God in every area of our lives. Here are just a few important things that can help us.

We need to regularly associate with people who have the same convictions as us. If not, their choice of entertainment will differ from yours and here is where plenty of temptation can cause trouble. This is probably one of the most important factors in remaining pure until marriage. There is a famous saying "Your friends will either make you or break you." I couldn't agree more with this. As Christians, we need to have godly friendships which will only enhance our growth with the Lord. When out with friends, do not go to places where you could be tempted to fall. There are plenty of good things to do and fun places to go to.

I have always been convicted about watching certain things on television. I always imagine Jesus sitting next to me on the couch. Then I say to myself, "Would I be watching this if He were really sitting here?" Even though He is physically not sitting next to me, His Presence is right there in the room, so in reality, He is there. I know that different Christians have different convictions about what they watch on television. Watching pornography or movies that contain sexual images are not good ways to help you to remain pure. Seeing these images on a regular basis will only cause you to reflect on it throughout the day, and will lead you to wanting to perform what you saw. Remaining in the presence of Yeshua will be a great help.

For me I have know one man, after our deivorce I found it hard sometimes keeping my thoughts and emotions together especially after beeing with someone for 16 years. I knowtest after time staying on my face while the Lord healed me these feelings and emotions became easier to control, let me make it clear we are ALL human and (YHVH) God has made us to feel this way of wanting to be loved by the right person, I have found to many people after divorce jump right back into a relationship instead of trusting the Lord to bring the right mate. For me there was much healing that needed to be done in my heart I knew I was not ready, and besides I was to scared to ruin my testimony before the Lord, for others, and for my husband to be for one night of fleshly desire.

I can honestly say going on 7 years of remaining pure and seeing how the Lord has healed me I feel my heart is NOW open and ready to Love again, and the biggest testimony I will have is on the night of my wedding day (I will know in my heart that I saved myself for him and him alone) After all you can't teach purity to others unless you have honored it yourself
